Deviation Actions
I use Firefox and I have AdBlock Plus. For a while, it was catching the ads here at DA, and it hadn't really occurred to me that it was- you don't notice when ads DON'T show up, after all. Within the past couple of weeks, DA added some code to put a glaring orange banner on the bottom third of every page asking people with adblockers to add an exception. I saw it and said, "yeah, I really should add an exception- the ads on DA aren't intrusive or anything." So I did, and the ad banners were displaying, and it wasn't a problem at all.
Until today.
I just logged on and went to my notifications. The very first deviation I clicked redirected to a malicious site that tried to download a "Firefox update" .js file. There was no clicking, the "download file" dialog popped up on its own. (And I had opened the deviation in a new tab in the background, so it was jarring to say the least.)
And then, I remembered why I have ABP in the first place. It's not because of banner ads- these hardly get in the way, after all, and my computer has no shortage of resources to display them. No, it's because too many ad servers use malicious code that redirects users away from the page they were trying to view, often to sites that try to put a virus on their computer, like the one DA sent me to today.
I understand that DA needs ad revenue, but I'm letting you put viruses on my computer to get it.

Eclipse is here
Okay, so the new DA is here. I don't really have strong feelings either way. It's ugly, glitchy, and overcomplicated, all while adding little of value. But it's not a huge hindrance, either, so eh... Plus I can send llamas back from the notification menu, so that's a plus. There's a new submission process for literature, too, so if I ever get back to writing, I'll have to see if that's an improvement. Because as my followers may remember, I'd dropped the built-in text editor for PDF uploads after it lost an entire fanfic chapter I'd pasted in. I think it was too long; I don't recall. Some tips I've already gathered: I had the notification page pinned in my browser, to see new group deviations. Eclipse has split things. If you hit "see all" in the notification dropdown, you won't see your groups. But the group page is still there: click "WATCH" on the top bar, toward the left. However, that page is glitched– it jumps to the "Deviations" tab on refresh, which means you don't see group
This is a beautiful song
A Saturday Night Live original, that Dolly Parton covered later:
I'm old
So now I'm thirty.
Fuck.

"This is a big fuckin' deal..." -Joe Biden
Oh, and I haven't forgotten my fanfiction. Cold saps my creativity, and these -15F temps made my house pretty chilly. Now that it's warming up, I'm back into my next chapter of Ranma-Baby, which I hope to get up soon. (I'd started on it back in the fall.)
